What you'll be doing
- The Accounts Coordinator is responsible for establishing patient financial account records, development, processing and submission of accurate claims to third party payors and clients. Monitors the processing of documentation which creates claims for various funding sources through data entry. Discusses financial responsibilities with patient/family prior to initiation of services. Receives and follows up on incoming correspondence and telephone inquiries regarding medical record information for payment. Completes and submits claims to Medicare, Medicaid and other insurance carriers according to government regulations, agency policies and timeliness standards. Edits all claims for accurate pricing, coding, service dates and general demographics, prior to submission to carriers. Bills secondary insurance claims with copy of explanation of benefits from primary or secondary payors and adheres to carrier-specific requirements for payment. Audits accounts to ensure that payment and balances are correct on each patient account. Reviews claim denials and resubmits claims for reconsideration. Maintains orderly system of client records. Maintains and meets daily productivity. Reviews weekly and monthly edit reports for accuracy. Reviews preliminary billing lists and makes adjustments and corrections. Generates patient account statements monthly. Negotiates pricing with subcontracted nursing agencies and insurance case managers. Collects on all overdue accounts through use of aging report as assigned. Maintains year-to-date reports of funding sources, patients and services. Prepares aging reports of unpaid claims and submits per policy. Maintains confidentiality of all patient, client and agency information.
What your background should be
- Requires verbal and written communications skills, filing ability, organization and prioritization capabilities, knowledge of medicare, medicaid and third party billing. Prefer home care, infusion or outpatient billing experience. ICD-9, medical coding experience.
Required Schooling / Training
- High School diploma or equivalent.
