What you'll be doing
- Recognizes and appropriately addresses any offensive or discriminatory activity. Utilizes the nursing process to assess and plan care and education for ostomy and wound care patients. Assesses patient care needs and identifies interventions for treatment/prevention of a pressure sore and/or ostomy related care needs. Serves a multi-faceted society and includes prevention, health maintenance, therapeutic intervention, and rehabilitation. Provides and assesses effectiveness of patient and family education related to patients identified to beat moderate to high risk for skin breakdown, or patients with complex wound management needs and follows up for any wound consults ordered. Assists in development of policies, procedures, and standards of care reflective of current practical literature. Interprets and analyzes data pertinent to wound, ostomy and continence issues. Coordinates quarterly pressure ulcer studies within individual nursing units among the Carolinas rehabilitation facilities. Develops and maintains evidence based practice guidelines for care of the ostomy and skin care patient.
What your background should be
- Current North Carolina RN licensure required. Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider (BLS HCP) from AHA required. Graduate from an approved enterostomal therapy certification program with a current enterostomal therapy nurse certificate or enrolled in or accepted in to a certification program. 3 to 5 years patient care experience required, preferable surgical nursing care and/or care involving ostomy, complex wound management experience, or skin care services. Obtains CRRN certification when experience allows. Must speak English in good, understandable terms.
Required Schooling / Training
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing program required. Bachelor of science degree in nursing or related field preferred.
