What you'll be doing

The paralegal will be responsible for handling trademark matters, working with three attorneys and other intellectual property paralegals and support staff with tasks including the ability to draft and file new trademark applications, responses, affidavits and other documents with the United States patent and trademark office, manage communication on new and ongoing trademark matters with outside foreign trademark counsel, and administer docketing of trademark matters. The paralegal should be able to conduct and analyze trademark clearance and assignment searches in support of business activities. This position demands attention to detail, a bias for action and a collaborative attitude, computer literacy, strong written and oral communication skills, excellent organizational skills and a professional demeanor. The successful candidate must be capable of performing job responsibilities within specified, and frequently shortened, internal and external deadlines, have the ability to handle multiple priorities, and work with minimal supervision. Handling of domestic and foreign trademark applications, office actions, statements of use, renewals and other filing office legal and administrative actions and formalities. Primary point of contact and oversight of foreign trademark associates. Administer and maintain global trademark docket and electronic database. Create, organize and maintain trademark files; Lead trademark clearance searches and reviews including coordination with clients, attorneys and outside counsel. Prepare, organize and conduct trademark portfolio audits with each internal business unit on at least an annual basis. Draft and manage powers of attorney, declarations, assignments, affidavits and other documents to support trademark activities. Assist attorneys with infringement, opposition, cancellation and other proceedings. Support attorneys and other legal department members with trademark-related projects. Manage corporate copyright licenses with Copyright Clearance Center, BMI, ASCAP, etc.Competitive monitoring, including review of USPTO Trademark Gazette. Handling of copyright matters, including filing of domestic and foreign copyright applications. Assisting with the updating and management of other legal databases, including intellectual property SharePoint site. Assistance with budget planning, cost tracking and matter invoicing and payment. Communicating with business clients. Serve as document retention coordinator for intellectual property group. Other duties as assigned.

What your background should be

Minimum of six (6) years trademark experience in law firm or in a corporate environment, required experience and knowledge of domestic and international trademark law and procedures; additional knowledge of other intellectual property areas is beneficial, but not required.

Required Schooling / Training

Bachelor degree from an accredited college or university, or Paralegal certification.
