What you'll be doing

The instructional systems specialist develops and contributes to the content of the company national training curricula, presented through directly, virtual, or web based delivery methods. The candidate works with the company subjects matter experts to develop and revise specific contents, organizations, styles, formats, emphasis, and treatments of each segment of the instructional courses. Determines the learning objectives and task learning relationships, organizes course contents, develops instructional design plans, and developes finished products such as lesson plans, training texts, programmed texts, and web or computer based instructional modules. S/he develops innovative and effective methods for education and training program improvements. The applicant applies professional skills and knowledge to solve education and training programs challenges. Plans logistics and coordinates execution of major training and educational activities for the company, both locally and in the field. Conducts special projects and studies to analyze, evaluate, and provide recommendations on educational programs or issues. The incumbent develops and conducts survey of training needs, analyzes information obtained, and prepares recommendations, coordinates and manages employee education programs and actively assists safety and risk awareness programs office partners.

What your background should be

The ideal candidate must have 1 year of equivalent experience to the related field or at least GS-11. S/he should have the ability to design, evaluate, and develop employee development programs, training plans, course methods, materials, and aids, ability to communicate ideas clearly both orally and in writing in order to effectively present findings and to make recommendations, effectively work and lead in a team environment and to coordinate work assignments of higher graded employees without line authority. The applicant should have expert knowledge in computer based instructional and training systems and a high degree of comfort and sophistication in use of audio visual equipment, videotaping and video editing software, extensive knowledge of the principles, concepts, and techniques of adult learning curriculum design and evaluation, and continuing education. To evaluate the effectiveness of instructional/educational programs, the incumbent should have to develop written and performance tests and survey instruments, and determining reliability and validity of evaluation instruments. S/he should study of the techniques appropriate for developing training materials, including identifying learner characteristics, specifying objectives, applying training strategy, validating training materials, and evaluating training.

Required Schooling / Training

4 years course of study in an accredited college or university, bachelor or higher degree is required.
