What you'll be doing

Monitor the development of the compensation staff through training, coaching, evaluating, and determining appropriate work assignments. Work closely with the compensation leadership to establish company objectives for the design and administration of compensation programs. Recommend a course of action for review and/or approval. Monitor the effectiveness of existing compensation plans, policies, and administrative procedures. Oversee the development of new plans or modifications to existing programs, administrative policies and practices to support company objectives. Manage the development and maintenance of the job description and evaluation process. Ensure accurate job documentation, salary market competitiveness, and internal equity for company positions. Coordinate participation in third party or custom salary surveys to identify and track the relevant labor market. Oversee the development and administration of wage and salary programs including the annual merit review process. Develop creative and innovative recommendations to enhance the program effectiveness or streamline administrative procedures. Identify opportunities to utilize new technologies, computer systems or vendors to enhance program effectiveness and control administrative costs. Act as a consultant for management and other company personnel related to job classification, merit increase, incentive compensation and salary administration programs. Provide guidance and direction on complex or unusual situations and policy interpretations. Research new developments to identify new compensation programs, technologies or administrative practices to maximize the utilization and cost effectiveness of company programs. Develop recommendations for management based on the analysis and findings. Keep abreast legislation, new developments and industry trends within the field of compensation. Identify the impact of new legislation and administrative procedures on existing company policies and procedures modifications as required to ensure with all legal requirements. Provide leadership to staff on special projects. Define project plan, scope, timelines, and delegation of duties. Support labor relations efforts of the company during contract negotiation by providing data analysis and recommendations based on competitive market information and job analysis, as requested. Compile, analyze, and present data in a meaningful way to facilitate the decision making process, as directed. Develop proposals and coordinate with outside consultants, contractors and vendors regarding special projects or analyses to support department activities. Define the project scope, timelines and budget expectations for the project. May coordinate with the consultants as required to resolve conflicts and ensure completion in a timely manner. Works with sales compensation to represent HR in all phases of the annual sales compensation plan design process and implementation for all sales groups. Leads key phases in the process such as market competitiveness assessment, and influences sales compensation design (mix of pay, measures, pay frequency). Provides insight, guidance and otherwise supports annual reviews, plan communication, century link policies, sales compensation education, and other activities core to supporting the sales strategy. Use analytics to monitor the effectiveness of existing compensation plans, policies, and administrative procedures. Oversee the development of new plans or modifications to existing programs, administrative policies and practices to support company objectives.

What your background should be

Minimum 10 years progressively responsible compensation experience which demonstrates a thorough knowledge of job analysis and evaluation, salary administration and the applicable state and federal laws and regulations with at least one year of direct people management experience. Demonstrated organizational and analytical abilities. Proficiency in using personal computers and related software to include spreadsheet, database and word processing software such as Word, Excel and Access. Working knowledge of SAP or similar human resource management system. Thorough knowledge of applicable state and federal laws and regulations related to compensation specifically FLSA. Experience in a wide variety of researching, recommending and documenting policies and procedures. Project leadership experience. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with personnel from all levels in the corporation and from a variety of external sources. Work under general supervision, inflexible deadlines and frequently changing priorities. Communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Professional certification from world at work (CCP). Experience developing and presenting human resource training. Experience with all facets of executive compensation including short and long term incentive plan development and administration as well as base pay administration. Experience developing, implementing and administering sales incentive programs.

Required Schooling / Training

Bachelor degree in human resources, business administration or related field.
