What you'll be doing
- The patient access service representative would accurately and expeditiously conduct interviews with patients, families, or other members of the public in a tactful but assertive manner during the admission process. The ideal candidate will compile, verify, analyze, and distribute demographic, insurance, and financial information to be used by various hospital departments, the billing office, insurance carriers and a range of local, state and federal agencies to assure proper compliance and prompt service to patients. The applicant has to initiate and coordinate referrals for financial assistance programs. The incumbent is responsible to assure verified data will provide accurate billing of charges and timely collection of accounts. S/he will support hospital and departmental goals in a manner that will enhance the successful operation of the hospital and create a positive image to the public. The ideal person will interact with patients and family members. The candidate will interact with state and federal agencies and insurance providers.
What your background should be
- The candidate should have at least 2 years of experience in a medical business setting and collection experience preferred. Able to communicate in English, both written and orally. Additional languages are preferred. Work knowledge of ICD-9, CPT and HIPP A regulations, preferred. Must be able to work flexible hours, alternate shifts including weekends, as needed.
Required Schooling / Training
- High school diploma required, associated degree preferred.
