What you'll be doing

This is a support function position in residential facility housing criminal justice clients. Coordinate the functions of residents in compliance with all state, federal and local agencies regulations. Protect the welfare and safety of residents, staff and shelter in a manner which ensure all residents are treated fairly, with respect and in accordance with agency contractual, guidelines and protocols. Responsible to check the ID of all visitors and have them sign into the facility via the visitor log. Responsible to read all communications upon starting shift (i.g. e-mail, memo binder; communication log) initial as required. Conduct urine screens as required; follow prescribed procedures. Assist with intakes and releases as requested. Monitor inmates at all times. This is the primary responsibility of every PSO. Ensure that inmates follow all rules and expectations. Update bulletin boards as needed to ensure information is up to date. Information should include, phone list for BOP and a copy of prohibitive acts, job search information, and the menu for the week. Check pass folder for passes that need to be signed by the case manager or the director. Complete audits as required or assigned by supervisor.

What your background should be

Minimum six months of human services or security experience in a residential setting is required. Security license and experience working with prison population is preferred. Must be able to pass background checks, such as NCIC/NLETS, prior to start. Should have good physical condition to permit the lifting and carrying of objects up to 50 lbs unassisted safely and carefully. Must have valid NYS driving license that meets VOA driving requirements. Must have strong knowledge/application of interpersonal and crisis management skills.

Required Schooling / Training

High school diploma or equivalent required.
