What you'll be doing
- Performs daily pre- and post- trip inspections. Completes and submits the vehicle conditions report at the end of the shift. Drives the front loader along designated commercial routes to mechanically collect solid waste and take it to the landfill for disposal. Opens container enclosures or gates to access cans. As needed, rolls 3-4 yard can on castors into position for dumping. Walk around visual inspection to check for water, oil, fuel and hydraulic leaks. Inspects safety equipment, gauges, fluid levels and checks to ensure that all equipment and systems are operational. Drives a heavy front loader truck. Uses a joystick to operate a packer blade that compacts waste into the truck body. Maneuvers the truck into and out of restricted spaces in order to service containers. Climbs out of truck cab and physically opens gate. Cleans loose trash of truck and/or ground around truck and container that spills during dumping process to maintain clean customer site and safety along roads and highways. Cleans waste from packer blade and truck body on each landfill run. This ensures that equipment operation will continue safely and productively. Courteously interacts with customers and/or the general public along the route to answer questions or respond to requests. Notifies supervisor of issues requiring management action.
What your background should be
- One year or equivalent commercial truck driving experience. Must be able to demonstrate the ability to safely drive the truck and operate the equipment. Must know and use proper lifting techniques to avoid injury. Able to recognize unacceptable waste (gasoline and other flammable, hazardous materials). Knowledge of the truck and its components, and the basic maintenance requirements for safe operation. Ability to read and write well enough to complete vehicle conditions reports. Excellent communication skills.
