What you'll be doing

Responsible for the daily operations and communication of the appointment scheduling area. Reviews and maintains patient accounts, secures financial arrangements on self-pay balances prior to and during patient appointments, verifies and pre-registers patients and responds to patient inquiries regarding billing and insurance. Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to patients of all age groups. Contacts patients with self-pay or outstanding balances to ensure appropriate financial arrangements. Responds to patient inquiries concerning the bill and account balances to resolve internal accounting and billing errors working closely with the centralized billing office. Pre-register and verify insurance coverage for patients according to established guidelines.

What your background should be

Prior medical business office or insurance company experience required, preferably in a customer service position. Prior experience working with third party payer regulations preferred. Excellent communication skills both verbal and written. Experience in credit and collections. Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills. Strong problem-solving skills. Proven ability to work independently and as a team member. Good time management and organizational skills with the ability to perform multiple tasks and prioritize. Thorough knowledge and understanding of insurance and third party payers. Expertise in telephone etiquette. Ability to recognize and handle customer complaints.

Required Schooling / Training

High school diploma or equivalent.
