What you'll be doing

The medical assistant performs administrative and certain clinical duties under the direction of OB or GYN and other providers. Verifies patient information by interviewing patients; recording medical histories; confirming purpose of visits. Prepares patients for examination by performing preliminary physical tests; taking blood pressure, weight and temperature; reporting patients history summary. Cleans and sterilizes instruments and disposes of contaminated supplies. Schedules appointments for patients. Changes dressings on wounds. Contacts medical facilities or departments to schedule patients for tests or admissions. Performs general office duties such as answering telephones, taking dictations and completing insurance forms. Secures patient information and maintains patient confidences by completing and safeguarding medical records; completing diagnostic coding and procedure coding; keeping patients informations confidential. Communicates politely and courteously with sensitive to people with different socio economics and ethnic backgrounds. Counsels patients by transmitting physicians orders and questions about procedures. Actively participates in team based cares, with a focus on being patients centric. Maintains safe, secure, and healthy works environment by establishing and following standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations. Keeps supplies ready by inventorying stocks; placing orders; verifying receipt. Keeps equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenances; calling for repairs. Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications. Serves and protects the primary care practices by adhering to professional standards, policies and procedures, federal, state and local requirements. Enhances practice reputations by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments. Performs all lab duties as required by CLIA and the state of PA and follows up on all lab procedures. Adheres to OSHA all guidelines.

What your background should be

2 years experience working in a medical environment. Must have at least 2 years experience working with OB or GYN services in a medical setting. Certification from an accredited medical assistant program. Medical terminology knowledge and basic data entry computer skills.

Required Schooling / Training

High school degree.
