What you'll be doing
- Design and architecture, lead and participate in projects as the UNIX/LINUX subject matter expert (SME). Develop budget estimates and project plan for UNIX/LINUX activities. Perform systems architecture design. Design review and technology and tool selection. Keep current on operating systems, hardware, 3rd party tools, and industry standards. Install and configure RHEL and OEL using KICKSTART. Plan, schedule and perform hardware and OS maintenance, including firmware upgrade and patch installation. Perform capacity planning. Create and execute scripts for various OS and software maintenance activities. Provide guidelines for development and production. Perform operating systems tuning including monitoring, troubleshooting and optimization of UNIX/LINUX servers. Define and adhere to departmental standards and methodologies. Archival, backup and recovery, develop archival, backup and recovery strategy. Plan, perform and monitor UNIX/LINUX OS backups. Perform UNIX/LINUX OS recoveries. Make recommendations on existing projects to improve systems security. Maintain and monitor UNIX/LINUX platform security. Perform other duties as required.
What your background should be
- Excellent understanding and working experience with RHEL 5, 6, 7 and OEL 5, 6, 7. Excellent understanding and working experience with VMWare and Virtualization technologies. Strong knowledge of Shell scripting with hands-on experience. Strong knowledge and working experience in installing, configuring and administering Oracle Cluster File System 2 (OCFS2). Strong knowledge and working experience in installing, configuring and administering Quantum SNFS File system. Experience with automation and configuration management platforms like Chef or Puppet (preferred)Experience with file transfer acceleration tools like Aspera or Signiant (preferred). Experience with log management using Splunk, Log Stash, or syslog. Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE).
Required Schooling / Training
- BS degree in a computer, physical sciences or engineering related discipline.
