What you'll be doing

The medical collector is responsible to daily follow-up of paper and electronic claims, including resolution of any billing errors. S/he will review accounts billed to commercial insurance medicare and medicaid. Claim re-submission and escalation. Obtain additional information needed to appeal denied or underpaid claims. Ensuring that, patient accounts properly and completely documented with insurance information and all other pertinent information. Escalation of payer issues to management at various payers. The incumbent schedule re bills in a timely manner. Ensuring that, all appeals processes followed when insurance sources do not pay properly. Maintaining current knowledge of medicare and medicaid regulations and ensuring the patient account representatives have a detailed understanding of the federal programs. Establish and maintain online resources used in handling claims. Maintain a workflow of 50-100 accounts to handle to conclusion. Perform structured reviews of accounts on a monthly basis (10 per par). Perform any other tasks assigned by management.

What your background should be

The applicant should have at least 3+ years of recent medical collections experience with an emphasis on claims reimbursement. The candidate should have strong organization skills, proven problem-solving skills and communication skills, excellent customer service and telephone etiquette skills, and detail oriented with strong analytical skills. Working knowledge of the insurance industry and medical terminology, strong knowledge of medicare, medicaid, managed care, private insurance, and auto insurance process and requirements, knowledge of medical billing and payer requirements, and knowledge of medical billing and payer requirements. Ability to operate office machines including but not limited to computer, ten key, etc. The candidate should have the ability to navigate specific billing software. Knowledge of excel and word.
