What you'll be doing

The donor relations unit plays an essential role in helping company to attract new donors to the company, as well as to retain and upgrade existing donors. To achieve its goal, the donor relations uses several key methods, which include: writes acknowledgment correspondence to thank donors for gifts, coordinates with fundraisers to create tailored recognition plans for major donors, producs financial and narrative stewardship reports to donors that detail the use of their gifts; writes occasional proposals to request new funding for programs and facilities; and collaborates with colleagues on recognition signage for donors who have given naming gifts to the company. Under the general direction of the senior director of communications, the director of donor relations plans, directs, oversees, and evaluates all donor relations vehicles produced by udar. These vehicles are targeted primarily to major gift prospects and donors, and play a key role in helping to attract new donors to company as well as to educate and motivate existing donors. The director works closely with udar development officers to determine their donor relations needs, and also plays a key role in determining the donor relations activities needed to support companies capital campaigns. The director supervises a staff including two senior donor relations specialists and a donor relations writer. The candidate will also perform other related duties.

What your background should be

10 years of communications fundraising experience. 10 years of writing, editing, and proofreading experience. Seven years of management and project management skills. Five years of experience in preparing budgets and negotiating contracts with third-party vendors, such as graphic designers and print houses. Comprehensive knowledge of stewardship processes from concept to completed product in order to guide designers, photographers, printers, and staff in creating outstanding products.excellent organizational and planning skills. Exceptional attention to detail. Fingerprinting and background check required. Experience in working in a development office of an academic medical center, including familiarity with a variety of constituencies such as faculty, students, donors, and alumni preferred. Familiarity with company policies, procedures, and style guidelines. Familiarity with company policies and procedures.
