What you'll be doing

The computer assistant is designate for the operations support section, operations division, and benefits delivery center. This position oversees and coordinates all production processing related to computer media control functions for the benefits delivery network (BDN) that is responsible for all benefits processing for the veterans. Operates computer systems or performs data processing support and service functions. Supports all aspects of print operations, maintains logs and supports overall computer operations and production control processing. Troubleshoots computer problems from hardware to software application and system problems. Performs technical and clerical program support. Maintains manuals, reference books and software instructions associated with the programs and systems used in the organization. Supports all aspects of print operations. Operates peripheral equipment (large scale printers). Verifies accuracy of electronic data being transferred and received by internal and external customers. Uses BDN tools and open systems to manage transaction processing. Uses unit center to manage change orders, transmittals and requests. Provides production control and computer operations support. Monitors print output and maintains output status logs.

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of the announcement. GS-06: One year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-06 grade level in the federal service); experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. At least one programming language, system control language (devise run control streams), system hardware, software and program capabilities and limitations for multiprogramming systems operating in more than two partisans; terminology, codes, abbreviations and graphics for preparing systems documentation or programs; program data content, standardized jobs within programs and methods for defining and retrieving non-standard data and reports. There is no educational substitution for the GS-06 level. Knowledge, skills, abilities and other characteristics (KSAOs) as part of the assessment questionnaire for this position. This training or experience MUST be reflected by descriptions of your experience in your resume. Knowledge of IT principles, concepts, methods and architecture. The work is generally sedentary although there may be some nominal walking or standing for short periods or carrying of light loads of papers, books, reports and the other types of materials that only require moderate physical ability and physical stress. The incumbent will work the afternoon shift. Hours will be from Tuesday to Saturday, 7:45 AM to 4:15 PM.
