What you'll be doing

Lead, provide scientific, strategic and matrix leadership in the development of early safety strategy and screening for novel targets and early chemistry. Develop and execute early discovery and target safety scientific and technical capability via partnership across (drug safety research & evaluation (DSRE) and with partner lines such as DMPK and pharmacology. Lead or coordinate the development of novel toxicity mechanism assays, computational predictive profiles and integrated models intended to support early target safety and chemistry characterization. May support or matrix manage early safety lead project representatives from across DSRE. Provide scientific and strategic expertise for pre-candidate nomination projects. Develop, align and execute a broad discovery toxicology strategy for drug discovery units (DDUs). Interact directly with DSRE global head, site leads and toxicology therapeutic area leads (TOTALs) to determine goals, strategy and execution of early safety screening. Review, discuss and approve screening data, reports, scientific conclusions and presentations of these data within DSRE and to project teams. Keep current on the latest trends in the scientific landscape; represent company in appropriate consortia efforts and external alliances.

What your background should be

Pharmaceutical experience in discovery sciences (minimum of 10+ years). Expertise in the multidisciplinary drug discovery with particular emphasis on one or more of mechanistic assay development, pharmacology assay development, computational predictive modelling, SAR, target validation, safety assay development or conduct. Experience in working in multidisciplinary drug discovery team environments ideally as a project team representative for safety. Familiarity with fundamentals of pharmacology, DMPK, computational biology and medicinal chemistry disciplines. Matrix management and mentorship skills.

Required Schooling / Training

BSc + masters degree. PhD (preferred).
