What you'll be doing
- Institutes, monitors, and maintains mechanical ventilators, continuous positive pressure devices, oxygen, and humidity devices. Obtains blood samples for analyzing blood gas and acid-base values. Assess patients and analyze laboratory and diagnostic data in order to assist in patient management. Assesses and evaluates the patients respiratory care in consultation with physicians, nurses and other health care personnel. Administers routine therapies, techniques and services as offered by respiratory care. Troubleshoots basic respiratory therapy equipment. Serves as a resource regarding respiratory care to patients, parents, physicians, and all members of the health care team. Maintains all respiratory equipment in good working order, including oversight of all repairs and scheduled preventive maintenance. Collaborates with team members to formulate a plan of care related to identified patient problems and desired outcomes. Evaluates the patients progress through continuous observation and assessment of responses to interventions, treatments, and therapies. Revises the plan of care according to changes in patient needs. Performs job functions adhering to service principles with customer service focus of innovation, service excellence and teamwork to provide the highest quality care and service to patients, families, co-workers and others.
What your background should be
- Basic life support certification required. PALS certification within the first year of employment required. Ability to effectively communicate with patients/families, physicians and hospital staff. Must have good communication skills.
