What you'll be doing

The health unit coordinator provides organizational, receptionist, and clerical support to patient care units and the health care team. These duties include making special arrangements to meet patient needs, scheduling appointments and tests according to physician and nursing orders, monitoring and ordering supplies, and transcribing orders to patient electronic medical record and other communication devices. Communicates effectively via a variety of modalities (e.g., telephone, electronic, and in person) with patients, visitors, and facility staff and plays an integral role in communication across the continuum of care. Participates in select, delegated medication use processes. Functions as a resource to members of the health care team and is familiar with multiple company resources. Supports the healthcare team by anticipating and responding to team requests and patient needs.

What your background should be

Completion of a health unit coordinator program including completion of the internship associated with the program or one year of unit secretary experience required. Health unit coordinator certificate and internship evaluation indicating program completion must be attached to the application to be considered. Demonstrates patience and tact in dealing with health team members, patients and visitors. Able to prioritize work under pressure, encountering and tolerating many interruptions.

Required Schooling / Training

High school diploma.
