What you'll be doing
- Accurately gathers and complies data statistical reports for both internal and external uses, preparing and disseminating reports within established timeframes. Proactively diagnoses opportunities and threats that impact mission notifying proper authorities and taking responsible action. Actively participates in staff/flight and effectively promotes ideas, concerns and issues that impact section operation/visibility. Plans and directs the activities of a records section, including clinical records coding and completion transcription and the tumor registry. Provides expertise in technical and administrative areas of record management, quality assurance and provides advisor for various committees, functions and professional meetings. Provides education, training and counseling of the current practice outpatient clinical coding techniques to the medical professionals, the health service managers and the third party billers.
What your background should be
- U.S. citizenship is required. Applicant must be registered for selective service. A security clearance may be required. Applicant is expected to have the knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, surgical and medical procedures sufficient to code for accurate workload capture and optimum billing. Applicant is required to have the knowledge of accepted medical abbreviations and their meanings and interpretations; knowledge of procedural and diagnostic civilian coding best practices; and knowledge of health care financing administration coding and billing regulatory guidelines and policies. A thorough understanding of ICD-9-CM and CPT coding policies and techniques is desired.
