What you'll be doing

The incumbent is a Service Chief for a service level department in a large, complex, 1B facility and has broad and overall responsibility for all the activities in the department. The incumbent will manage substantive parts of the medical center that deliver specialized, complex, professional services that significantly impact the care provided to veterans. The selected candidate is also responsible for general supervision of clinical and training programs and overall technical and administrative oversight for operations within the service. The Service Chief is responsible for the audiology and speech pathology service, supervising clinical or training programs and ensuring overall technical and administrative oversight for operations within the service, developing, organizing, directing, managing, controlling and implementing policies and procedures. Ensure proper coordination of delivery health care facility. Making decisions that affect section clinical and clerical staff and other resources associated with the department with great autonomy, defining, assigning and delegating duties and responsibilities to subordinates and evaluating the work of employees to ensure that production and accuracy requirements met. Ensuring that services are provides in a timely, effective and efficient manner.

What your background should be

Experience working at a medium to large sized medical facility overseeing an audiology/speech pathology department is highly preferred. Citizen of the United States. The incumbent must hold a full, current, and unrestricted license in a state, territory, commonwealth, or the District of Columbia. Must be physically and mentally able to perform the duties of the position. Require standing, walking, bending, and light to moderate lifting, positioning patients. Audiologists and speech pathologists must be proficient in spoken and written English. To be creditable, the experience must have required the use of knowledge, skills, abilities, and other characteristics associated with contemporary professional audiology and speech pathology practice. Ability to establish and monitor productivity standards and production and performance priorities. Ability to organize work, set priorities, delegate tasks, manages, and directs the work of others to accomplish program goals and missions. Ability to accommodate new and changing work conditions, contingencies and staffing. Ability to translate management goals and objectives into well-coordinated and controlled work operations. The incumbent must also demonstrate the potential to acquire the KSA. Ability to supervise, motivate and effectively manage a diverse clinical staff. Skill in assessing qualifications and abilities of current and prospective employees.

Required Schooling / Training

A master degree or its equivalent in audiology or hearing science; or speech language pathology, communication disorders or a directly related field from an accredited college or university.
