What you'll be doing

Plan, direct, or coordinate the work activities and resources necessary for manufacturing products in accordance with cost, quality, and quantity specifications. Direct and coordinate production, processing, distribution, and marketing activities of industrial organization. Review processing schedules and production orders to make decisions concerning inventory requirements, staffing requirements, work procedures, and duty assignments, considering budgetary limitations and time constraints. Hire, train, evaluate, and discharge staff, and resolve personnel grievances. Prepare and maintain production reports and personnel records. Set and monitor product standards, examining samples of raw products or directing testing during processing, to ensure finished products are of prescribed quality. Plan work schedules and assign duties to maintain adequate staff for effective performance of activities and response to fluctuating workloads. Collaborate with workers and managers to solve work-related problems. Perform the same work duties as those supervised or perform more difficult or skilled tasks or assist in their performance. Conduct staff meetings to relay general information or to address specific topics, such as safety. Counsel employees in work-related activities, personal growth, and career development.Recommend or initiate personnel actions, such as promotions, transfers, and disciplinary measures. Assess training needs of staff and arrange for or provide appropriate instruction.
