What you'll be doing

This position will support the claims department, handle personal lines and commercial lines material damage claims of total loss, will possess strong negotiation skills, and have claims/material damage experience. Promptly and effectively, handle to conclusion all assigned claims with little to no direction and oversight; make decision within delegated authority as outlined in company policies and procedures. Adhere to high standards of professional conduct consistent with the delivery of superior service, investigate claims, obtain medical reports, appraisal, and estimate of property damage and evaluate bodily injury claims. Coordinate and review work performed by independent adjusters, determines liability, obtain data from interviews with persons associated with the case, recorded statements and police reports and documents the claim file. Receive loss report, determine coverage, code, and establish claim reserve. Conduct settlement negotiations with involved parties. Obtain liability release for adjusted claims and ensures drafts are issued as payment, dispose of salvage and collect recovery, submit severe incident reports, reinsurance reports and other information to home office. Claim management and underwriting. Collaborate with SIU and Subrogation to identify fraud and subrogation opportunities.

What your background should be

State licensing where required. Successful completion of applicable claims certification training or classes. Professional development such as IIA or CPCU preferred. Three to five years of successful experience in customer service and claims handling required. Multi line or discipline experience preferred. Demonstrated knowledge of customer service principles, insurance company operations and multiple property casualty insurance lines of business, proven ability to perform vendor management, customer service techniques, and all related claims systems are expected. Demonstrated knowledge and adherence to best claims practices. Participation in technical insurance or industry coursework preferred (CPCU, ICAR, ASE). Excellent customer focus and proven ability to proactively meet customer needs, general knowledge of insurance theory and practices, insurance contracts and their application, familiarity with claims processing and claims best practices and procedures preferred.

Required Schooling / Training

Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience preferred. Postgraduate studies desirable.
