What you'll be doing

Lead academic success staff in the provision of academic advising, recruitment or retention or academic program functions for students, such as fall welcome and orientations. Advise and counsel undergraduates and prospective students regarding policies, procedures and academic requirements as well as unique academic opportunities (e.g., study abroad, scholarship opportunities). Understand curriculum and be able to disseminate information and offer guidance regarding enrollment procedures, major map requirements and course selection. Work with minimal supervision to handle complex problems, provide guidance to faculty, staff, students and parents and oversee specific advising functions including any of the following: first year recruitment and retention, curriculum development, student engagement and online programs. Evaluate transfer transcripts from other academic institutions for equivalencies and applications to degree programs. Maintain student files and records. Evaluate and make recommendations for petitions and adjustments to individual student programs of study. Assist with updates of computerized information system regarding advisement sessions, eAdvisor critical tracking system, major maps, MAPPs or TAGs, online appointment systems and changes to student status as needed. Review for accuracy and approve various forms to assist in student degree completion, such as overload petitions, graduation planning sheets, standards petitions, grade changes and curriculum changes. Advise and provide outreach to students on academic probation or continuing probation to overcome problems that hinder academic performance as well as identify and follow through with developmental and intrusive advising opportunities. Serve as liaison with the college of liberal arts and sciences and both university and school faculty or staff as needed. Represent the school on boards or committees related to undergraduate students as assigned.

What your background should be

One year previous experience in one or more of the following: advising, student recruitment or retention or related student services utilizing a proactive and innovative approach which results in demonstrated outcomes in retention, graduation and academic planning; or, any equivalent combination of experience or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved. Experience of academic advising students in a higher education setting for at least 3 years. Demonstrated knowledge of higher education environment including both on campus and on-line. Demonstrated knowledge of university curricular requirements. Demonstrated knowledge of principles, practices, procedures and strategies of academic advising. Demonstrated knowledge of articulation policies and procedures and academic credit or transcript evaluations. Demonstrated knowledge of client company campus resources for students. Demonstrated knowledge of client company academic structure and organization. Experience in coordinating or managing projects, programs or students. Experience in designing presentation materials. Experience in giving oral presentations in group settings. Experience in using Microsoft Office applications (e.g. Word, Excel, Outlook). Experience in using student information systems and doing degree audits. Experience in working with diverse populations.

Required Schooling / Training

Master's degree.
