Obtains correct financial and demographic patient information. Places armband on patient. Identifies correct patient type. Selects correct insurance plan. Selects correct M/V(medical record/visit) number. Verifies correctness of appointments. Presents and explains legal, ethical, and compliant related documents to the patient and/or patient representative. Identifies insurance plans and obtains required information. Follows insurance contract requirements and restrictions guidelines. Collects insurance co-payments, self-pay deposits and patient balances. Complies with departmental policies and procedures. Meets department registration standards. Participates in process improvements. Cross-trains in other areas and functions. Aids department and hospital to overcome language barriers.
What your background should be
1-2 years of hospital clerical, general clerical experience is required. Experience in physician's office is helpful. CHAA (certified health care admissions associated) preferred. Scheduling experience a plus. Ability to type, spell, write or print legibly with general knowledge of personal computers. Strong interpersonal communication, documentation, customer service and collection skills.
