What you'll be doing

Under the direction of the associate commissioner of construction, the selected candidate will serve as assistant commissioner. Oversight of an annual capital program comprising of 20-35 active projects, valued at more than $300 million; manage a technical and professional construction staff of at least 40 responsible for managing construction of sewer, water main and roadway projects. Ensure that all construction projects remain on schedule, that costs are controlled and within budget, that performance of all assigned employees, consultants and contractors are monitored and evaluated and provide direction and guidance to staff in the resolution of all construction issues to ensure that projects are started and completed on time with minimum impact on affected communities. The selected candidate will also participate in various agency taskforces relating to new initiatives, review the capital commitment goals for current fiscal year and analyze staffing based upon complexity and program workload. Perform other duties as assigned.

What your background should be

Candidate must have six (6) years of full-time paid experience in civil, mechanical, electrical, chemical or air pollution control engineering work and at least two (2) years of experience which shall have been as an administrative engineer. Candidate must have strong supervisory and managerial experience; experience with the operation, design and construction of the city infrastructure systems and knowledge of current and up-to-date engineering methods. Candidate should possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
