What you'll be doing
- The duties of this position involves the accurate processing of all aspects of pay, the maintenance of payroll records, and the completion of related reports pertaining to civilian employees of the federal government. Examining personnel actions, pay changes, and employee requests to make appropriate changes to master records. Answering employee requests for information and providing advice to supervisors, financial management specialists, and personnel specialists on rules, regulations, and procedures relating to pay. Answering questions on leave regulations, procedures, and balances. Verifying the accuracy of time-card submissions and processing according to policy. Reviewing personnel documents for proper application of pay regulations. Entering and extracting information and data in automated payroll system
What your background should be
- 1 year time-in-grade at the GS 5 to qualify for the GS-6.GS 5. Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade (GS- 04) in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience may include performing a variety of support functions using standardized procedures to process financial transactions such as entering data into an automated payroll systems and correcting invalid/incorrect payroll transactions; preparing reports, memoranda and data summaries as required; typing and computer skills that demonstrates proficiency with accounting programs. Typical experience at this level would have been gained working as a clerk or assistant for an organization performing payroll, accounting, or finance work.
