What you'll be doing
- Retrieve reservation/notification of scheduled admission from gatekeeper via laser printer. Perform pre registration and insurance verification within 24 hours of receipt of reservation/notification for both inpatient and outpatient service. Follow scripted benefit verification and pre certification format in meditech custom benefit screen and record benefit and pre certification information therein. Contact physician to resolve issue regarding prior authorization or referral form. Perform electronic eligibility confirmation when applicable and document result. Research patient visit history to ensure compliance with the medicare 72 hour rule. Calculate patient cost share and prepare to collect via phone or make payment arrangement. Receive and record payment from patient for service rendered. Prepare daily deposit and maintain the integrity of the cash drawer. Perform insurance verification and pre certification follow up for prior day walk in admission/registration and account status change by assigned facility. Communicate with hospital based case manager as necessary to ensure prompt resolution of pre exist, noncover and re certification issue. Assist manager with the QA process as requested. Implement and follow system downtime procedure when necessary. Perform other duty as assigned.
What your background should be
- At least three years of insurance verification experience preferred. Communicates clearly and concisely, verbally and in writing. Establishes and maintains long term customer relationships, building trust and respect by consistently meeting and exceeding expectations. Interpersonal skills-able to work effectively with other employee, patients and external parties. Demonstrates proficiency in PC applications as required. Able to perform basic mathematical calculations, balance and reconcile figures, punctuate properly, spell correctly and transcribe accurately.
Required Schooling / Training
- High school diploma or GED required.
