What you'll be doing

Assists the vice president and chief compliance officer and acting chief privacy officer by serving as the intake person for all HIPAA privacy related calls received by the compliance department and either handling the call herself, to the extent she is able to do so, or to triage them to the acting chief privacy officer or, in rare cases, to legal counsel, for legal related issues. Assists the acting chief privacy officer with drafting of breach notification letters, making arrangements for credit monitoring, forwarding invoices, and tracking information for reporting purposes. Provides legal research regarding the laws, regulations and government policies applicable to a variety of compliance related issues, works with the site compliance officers to address issues of concern to their sites or areas of responsibility, and assists the vice president and chief compliance officer with the review and possible revision of the internal policies applicable to the compliance function. Works under the direction of the site compliance officers, conducts compliance related investigations and risk assessments in accordance with established standards, monitors and researches regulations, helps develop and administer compliance education activities, and participates in reporting compliance related activities to executive management and the chief compliance officer. Participates in and/or contributes to the corporate compliance department activities as requested.

What your background should be

Course work and or other relevant experience in health care privacy and compliance. Strong personal computer skills, Microsoft Word, Excel spreadsheet. Enrolled in health law certification program. Occasional travel to hospitals and other facilities. Knowledge of health care operations, legal compliance/regulatory affairs, ability to plan, complete assignments and report on protected health information (PHI) and business conduct compliance activities. Excellent interpersonal skills and good judgment are necessary. Good project and time management skills and ability to meet deadlines are also important. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. A high degree of initiative, tact and discretion.
