What you'll be doing

Makes corrections necessary to communications system hardware and software to ensure the availability of the data network. Evaluates and reports on new analog and digital communications technologies to enhance the capabilities of the data network. Proposes solutions to management to provide all data communications requirements are based upon future needs and current usage, configuring such solutions to optimize cost savings. Plans, evaluates, and coordinates installation and/or reconfiguration of hardware and software elements of data and/or voice communication network. Maintains technical expertise in all areas of networks and computer hardware and software interconnection and interfacing, such as routers, multiplexers, firewalls, hubs, bridges, gateways, etc. Prepares or ensures that appropriate network documentation exists, including operational instructions. Monitors and provides network analysis regarding short and long-range planning for in-house systems. Coordinates third-party maintenance for network equipment. Designs network or portion of network that include selection of hardware and software packages.

What your background should be

Practical experience as a network engineer on complex systems. Linux/Linux+ certification. Redhat experience. Solaris experience. Self- motivated and able to respond well to fast changes of requirements or priorities. Proficiency in using typical PC software such as Microsoft Office applications, database, flowcharts, and project schedulers required. Effective written, oral and interpersonal skills required. Must have a secret security clearance.
