Detoxification Counselor

What you'll be doing
- Under the supervision of the Program Coordinator, the Detoxification Counselor will serve as the Team Leader for all direct client services provided during assigned shifts in the Detoxification Unit. He/she will also be responsible for ensuring the safety and security of the residents and the facility during the night shift for the Early Recovery Unit. The Detoxification Counselor will also monitor and assist in staff and volunteer training. Other duties not listed here may be assigned by leadership.
What your background should be
- If a recovering alcoholic or drug addict, a minimum of three (3) years of abstinence is required. A Bachelor Degree and two years of experience in substance abuse treatment or High School Diploma or G.E.D. and four years of experience required. Must have the proven ability to practice effective personnel practices and to relate appropriately with staff, volunteers, and community services representatives. Must have the ability to show genuine empathy, concern and understanding in relation to client problems. Must be of sound and mature judgment in order to promote effective programs. Must have the ability to recognize and evaluate clients need for medical attention. Must be privileged to drive according to the criteria set forth by Agency MVR guidelines. Valid driving license in jurisdiction of residence. Vehicle liability coverage if driving personal vehicle (on occasion, may be required to transport clients in personal vehicle). May be required to drive a van. Acceptable Criminal background check. Negative Drug Screening. Negative tuberculosis screening. CPR/First Aid Certification must be acquired and maintained once employed.
Required Schooling / Training
- High School Diploma or G.E.D required. Bachelor Degree preferred.
