What you'll be doing

Ensure accurate financial reporting and GAAP compliance. Consult with Financial Executive (FE) lending & marketing, Senior Financial Executive (SFE) credit and accounting policy to analyze, evaluate and provide accounting guidance in response to inquiries from auditors, regulators and others regarding specific transactions, issues and other matters. Collaborate with FE lending & marketing, SFE credit and accounting policy as needed to proactively provide counsel to senior AFCO/CAFO managers on accounting issues and relevant accounting pronouncements to ensure proper accounting treatment for transactions and financial reporting in compliance with GAAP. Ensure AFCO/CAFO compliance with regulatory accounting and reporting requirements, including Reg. W reporting. Implement models to assist AFCO/CAFO managers in understanding the accounting requirements specific to new GAAP. Coordinate the preparation of audited financial statements. Manage foreign currency transactions and exchange rate exposure. Ensure compliance with Canadian regulatory reporting requirements. Design, implement and maintain adequate internal controls, including preventing or detecting financial reporting errors and irregularities. Ensure the design and implementation of adequate AFCO/CAFO processes and controls to comply with relevant GAAP, prevent or detect financial reporting fraud and avoid deficiencies in internal control over financial reporting. Monitor the effectiveness of these controls. Institute and maintain other planning and control procedures and analyze and report variances. Oversee and coordinate accounting close for AFCO/CAFO. Ensure timely and accurate posting of entries for all transactions, preparation of closing packages and management reports. Coordinate and review variance explanations for actual to budget and forecast and monthly narrative on results of operations for month end close packages.Furnish various external and internal reports such as economic forecasts, industry trends, loan policy data, market risk and liquidity committee loan projections and business performance metrics to lending & marketing group and financial management. Provide leadership to facilitate the preparation of the annual profit plan. Coordinate monthly funds management and management accounting forecasting. Proactively provide counsel to Senior AFCO/CAFO managers on improving profitability and efficiency as well as accounting implications of new strategies, products and major contracts. Implement models to improve operating leverage and maximize economic profit. Develop and analyze business strategies. Assist AFCO/CAFO senior management with the evaluation of businesses for potential acquisition and integration with AFCO/CAFO.Develop business analyses and statistics to ensure optimal business strategy implementation. Assist management in business modeling for new strategic opportunities. Prepare strategic analysis and financial support for AFCO/CAFO planning sessions. Support continual process improvement.

What your background should be

Ten years of public accounting experience or twelve years with a publicly traded institution that is in the lending industry. Seven years of leadership experience. Strong working knowledge of MSAS and Cognos. Twelve years of relevant accounting experience. Prior CFO/Controller experience. Demonstrated ability to work under difficult time constraints and manage multiple priorities. Strong work ethic and commitment. Conceptual thinker. Ability to travel as needed, occasionally overnight.

Required Schooling / Training

Bachelor degree in accounting, finance, business administration or equivalent education and related training or Master degree in business administration or accountancy.
