Provide support to pilot plant and manage R&T extrusion equipment and related assets; compounding process support; ongoing technical support for production plants. Assist the plant with trouble-shooting of extrusion issues; plant de-bottlenecking efforts. Develop extrusion scale-up technology for new resins. Develop extruder screw designs and process conditions. Assist in the commercialization of new resins at the plants. Support licensing and engineering service - assist in selection and sizing of extrusion equipment for existing and new plants. Keep up with latest vendor technologies to improve process capabilities for plants. Lead vendor trials when new finishing technology is being developed. Provide process specifications and screw design information to meet warranty on resin properties. Assist with on-site support as needed for plant start-ups. Support technical service and other business groups with extrusion/compounding needs for formulations and/or customer test samples as needed. Assist in additive qualifications. Evaluate commercial simulation software to develop in-house predictive capabilities
What your background should be
This person must be a team player and will be required to interact closely with sales, marketing, QA/QC, Research & Technology and plant manufacturing groups and personnel to address extrusion-related product issues/concerns and work with the plant personnel to determine corrective actions. The candidate must possess excellent oral and written communication skills and will be expected to write detailed technical presentations/reports. Polymers/plastics/chemistry/chemical engineering/materials science/mechanical, with a minimum of 7 years of industrial or post-doctoral experience in relevant technical areas. Experience and knowledge of one or more polymer processing operations like single and/or twin-screw extrusion, cast and/or blown film extrusion, injection molding, blow molding, thermoforming, fiber extrusion, etc. Strong basic computer skills in word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, data collection and basic data analysis. Good working knowledge and familiarity with polymers. Hands-on and theoretical knowledge and experience with polymer characterization methods/tools including thermal analysis (DSC, TGA, DMA, DMTA), rheology (dynamic, capillary), FTIR, NMR, TEM, SEM, etc. will be a significant plus. Knowledge of design of experiments (DOE). Experience and knowledge of polyolefin resins (polyethylene and polypropylene) and engineering thermoplastics.
