What you'll be doing

This position is responsible for coordinating and leading technical services on this shift. Collaborates with manager to measure, assess and improve performance of shift personnel and to achieve the quality and quantity commitments of the histology department. Provides technical training leadership and coordination of the histology section on shift. Monitors work flow to assure turnaround time commitments and quality standards are met. Handles routine daily operational issues. Performs duties of staff biotechnologist on shift, including embedding, cutting, staining and other associated histology tasks. Implements training and cross training of histology staff and student, integrates new technical services and procedures. Receives staff scheduling requests and coordinates with director of histology for approval. Participates in screening of applicants. Provides input into performance evaluations for personnel on shift. Ensures proper maintenance of laboratory equipment on shift. Notifies supervisor/manager of any service requirements and provides input relative to capital equipment purchases. Assists supervisor/manager with maintaining adequate consumable supply inventories. Maintains safety standards set forth by regulatory groups and company policy. Other duties as assigned by supervisor or director of histology.

What your background should be

The incumbent should have 5 or more years of histology bench experience. Extensive contact with pathologists, executive management staff, peers and employees. Handling of hazardous waste material. Must be able to sustain normal exposure to common laboratory environment. Tolerate face mask and germicidal soaps. Exposure to xylene, alcohol and other biohazardous materials. Requires sitting or standing for extended periods of time. Requires manual and finger dexterity along with eye-hand coordination. Knowledge of key management and supervisory principles, including positive representation of company policies and decisions.

Required Schooling / Training

High school diploma or equivalent.
