What you'll be doing: Reviews and implements security provisions to ensure authorized access and integrity of the RDMS. Ensures the application of information security/information assurance policies, principles and practices in the conduct and oversight of RDMS policy and planning functions. Implements the policy for the use of the data and any access constraints applying to exclusive or shared file usage. Provides technical advice and coordinates the monitoring and tuning requirements for RDMS optimization of performance. Analyses database operation to identify bottlenecks and takes action to resolve problems and ensure consistency. Manages the flow of data between the various tiers of the architecture. Investigates amount of storages space consumed, access time statistics and frequency of use for a given RDMS. Reviews RDMS accounting information and takes action to improve efficiency. Reviews system documentation, users manuals and training guides. Troubleshoots problems involved in the input, retrieval or modification of database information and general operation and maintenance pertinent to any of the organizations data systems elements or sub-elements. Tests new DBMS software and implements updates and changes. Ensures resolution of DBMS inconsistencies across the installation in coordination with other information technology specialist and system administrators.

What your background should be: Must have at least 36 months of experience in related field. Knowledge of system diagnostic tools and structured techniques for the recovery of failed systems and data access. Knowledge of agency applications, operating systems and components, protocols and the hardware and software used throughout the state in order to conduct system administration functions. Skills in analyzing requests for new and modified applications with expert ability in system design, programming, hardware selection and adapting commercially available software.
