What you'll be doing
- Responsible for training personnel and performing audits. Assists leadership with coding related functions to ensure consistent, high quality code, MSDRG/DRG and POA indicator assignment. Essential functions: trains personnel according to CHS specific guidelines while utilizing the facility encoder and HBOC and/or EMR. Performs coding audits to ensure consistent, high quality code, MS/DRG, DRG and POA assignment. Assists with rebilling accounts when necessary. Coordinates flow of information between coding and other departments, which include medical records, medical audit, patient accounts, and clinical care management. Codes inpatient medical records to identify the appropriate MSDRG, DRG, principal diagnosis and procedure plus all appropriate secondary diagnoses and procedures as well as appropriate POA assignment. Codes outpatient medical records to identify the appropriate principal diagnosis and procedure plus all appropriate secondary diagnoses and procedures.
What your background should be
- Five years acute care facility coding and/or supervision. Ability to work effectively as a trainer/educator while communicating effectively and patiently preferred. Previous auditing and training experience preferred. RHIT or CCS required and/or RHIA required.
Required Schooling / Training
- High School diploma or GED required; Bachelor degree preferred.
