What you'll be doing

This position is responsible for providing leadership to the milling operations shift team and ensures effective operation of the milling systems in a manner that optimizes safety, product quality, production and continuous improvement. Leads the shift team and operates the milling systems. Coaches staff to make appropriate equipment adjustments to match specifications and operational requirements. Ensures staff completes all documentation and product testing and monitors all operational logs for accuracy and completion. Evaluates employee performance, assists with performance management and makes recommendation to the assistant head miller as it relates to HR matters. Assists staff in problem solving and root cause prevention of shift issues. Helps to promote a problem solving culture. Monitors all equipment for wears and damages and follows up to ensure fault reports are submitted. Ensures shift team performs sanitation requirements and adheres to standards in all areas of the mill and grounds. Remains current on food safety and defense programs as related to the manufacturing of all oat products and attends the required training as necessary. Responsible for actively engaging the team in activities to meet targets for safety, yield, quality, production and 5s standards. Operates in accordance with health, safety and fire prevention regulations and practices. Regularly communicates with assistant head miller and head miller ensuring that shift objectives are being met. Assists with new employee orientation and onboarding of new staff. Provides vacation relief and sick relief where necessary for milling staff. Performs other related duties as required.

What your background should be

Three to five years of milling experience. Proven ability to lead staff, ability to develop good working relationships and work independently. Mechanical ability to operate and maintain oat processing equipment. Solid written, oral and computer skills.

Required Schooling / Training

High school diploma.
