What you'll be doing
- Incumbent serves as medical support assistant with responsibilities for providing administrative support to primary care. He/she provides advisory and technical assistance with regards to eligibility for inpatient/outpatient treatment as well as other special programs. Incumbent provides assistance to beneficiaries seeking medical benefits, provides advice to clinical staff on eligibility, and retrieves referrals from and to specific clinics in the medical center. He/she performs receptionist, record keeping, and request record information from outside hospitals. Receives telephone inquiries and directs visitors to their appropriate clinic destination. He/she updates patient cancellation requests and no show in vista scheduling package and informs clinicians of appointment statistics. He/she provides referral and procedural advice to veterans seeking to upgrade a military discharge and/or seeking to files medical claims for service connected status. Incumbent serves as a key contact for patients and beneficiaries seeking medical treatment, experiencing problems, and requesting information. The incumbent works with professional staff to expedite emergency request in daily patient care.
What your background should be
- One year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. You will be asked having the knowledge of medical terminology and procedures common to each service; knowledge of agency regulations governing patient eligibility; knowledge of clinic procedure for receiving and following through on patient treatment, obtaining and reviewing patient medical records; knowledge of safety policies and procedures in order to respond effectively to emergencies or drills; and the ability to communicate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds with varying levels of understanding. Applicant must be proficient in spoken and written english.
Required Schooling / Training
- One year above high school; or equivalent combination of experience and education are acceptable.
