What you'll be doing

Medical support schools technical instructors provide performance-based training to both novice coast guard personnel and those seeking periodic refresher, or transition training to maintain emergency medical technician certification with the national registry of EMTs. Additionally, technical instructors provide training in clinical medicine, medical administration, computer-automated medical information management systems, advanced emergency medical interventions, pharmacology, intravenous therapy, minor surgery, and as needed, certain tactical combat casualty care skills such as needle-chest decompression. Ideal candidates are familiar with both routine clinical and emergency medical skills, though a candidate especially strong in either will be considered. Technical Instructors must possess in-depth medical expertise, in addition to effective didactic, psycho-motor, and performance test skill-sets, to maintain a high-degree of credibility with the student population and to ensure all students are competent and confident to carry out their medical support duties upon graduation from initial or refresher training.

What your background should be

Must possess a minimum of 5 years experience as a coast guard or navy subject matter expert hospital corps-man, health services technician, emergency medical technician, paramedic, or a comparable military occupational speciality (MOS) from another military service (air force, army, navy, or marine corps), or equivalent experience in the civilian sector. Minimum of 1 year experience providing lectures, demonstrations, hands-on labs, practice exercises, and performance tests required to support performance-based, computer training.
