What you'll be doing
- In collaboration with a neonatologist, performs neonatal health care management. Promotes a safe environment and performs all job responsibilities in a safe manner. Maintains clinical and professional competency as appropriate to the ages, developmental stages and special needs of the patients served. Functions under the general supervision of the NNP coordinator and the neonatologist. Assesses health status (through advanced physical examination and medical history) and designs individualized health care management plans in collaboration with staff nurses, physicians and other health professionals. Manages health care of neonates within protocols mutually agreed upon by physician and nursing personnel. Identifies abnormal findings early and initiates appropriate intervention. Assesses and provides support for the psychosocial needs of the family unit. Provides neonatal health management, functioning within the guidelines of the nurse practice act, regulatory agencies and policies and procedures. Provides and assesses effectiveness of patient and family education. Serves as a role model/clinical resource in all aspects of job performance and human relation skills. Assesses own practice needs, as well as those of the other members of the health care team, and develops methods to meet those needs. Participates on committees and in research as appropriate. Participates with performance improvement activities.
What your background should be
- Current licensure to practice as a RN or a temporary license as a registered nurse petitioner in the state of NC. Approved to practice as a neonatal nurse practitioner in NC by the NC board of nursing and board of medical examiner. Minimum 2 years nursing experience in a neonatal intensive care nursery. BSN required. Basic life support for healthcare provider (BLS HCP) from AHA is required.
Required Schooling / Training
- Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.
