What you'll be doing

The parent counselor provides referral information to parents who are seeking assistance with child care matters and determines the eligibility of these parents for financially assisted child care/School Readiness (SR) and Voluntary Pre Kindergarten (VPK) services according to funding guidelines. Such duties as face to face interviews with prospective clients, data entry, computer support, maintaining records and files, client updates and making telephone calls are required. He/she will also communicate with child care providers in the community for the approval of child care services, transferring of clients from site to site and the termination of child care services of clients. Daily reports to the manager of eligibility and child care resource and referral. This person must be able to function as a team member and work on multiple projects at the same time. Ensures that client and provider (and referral source, as applicable) are given copies of appropriate paperwork. Manages redeterminations in date order to ensure that all redeterminations are completed by care end date. Advises manager of any difficulties in meeting deadlines. Reviews all documents with clients that require signature and explains program parameters and requirements. Follows all instructions and submits data as designated by the established deadline.

What your background should be

Requires at least 2 years in an office environment or related work experience i.e. eligibility determination, provision of services under a county or state contract is preferred. Knowledge of state data systems including the Enhanced Field System (EFS) is a plus. Available to work flexible schedules, including occasional weekend/evenings as required. A valid Florida driving license, proof of auto insurance, availability of an automobile during work hours, and the ability to travel locally or regionally for job related activities and functions are required.

Required Schooling / Training

Requires a High School diploma or equivalent. An AA degree is preferred.
