What you'll be doing
- Psychiatrist will provide prescribed treatment to veterans in need of psychiatric services. Duties include documenting observations, assessments and changes in patient's condition, collaborating with health team members to facilitate positive patient care outcomes, providing a full range of psychiatric care to patients with a variety of physical and/or behavior problems and accountable for meeting and maintaining the qualification standards of assigned speciality. Ability to establish effective communication with patients, families, visitors and members of the interdisciplinary team. The Outpatient Psychiatrist will provide patient care to approximately 12-20 outpatients daily, including diagnosis, care and treatment, as well as consultations to other services when requested. Responsible for all facets of outpatient care including emergency management of crises with patients. Will assist in completing quality management reviews .Responsible for the successful achievement of applicable performance measure and monitors for his/her areas of responsibility.
What your background should be
- Must be computer literate with computer skills to access and input electronic medical documentation. Current full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory or Commonwealth of the United States or in the district of Columbia. The physician must maintain current registration in the State of licensure if this is a requirement for continuing active, current licensure. The facility Director may waive this licensure requirement if the physician is to serve in a country other than the United States and the physician has licensure in that country. Board certified with the American board of certification in a speciality area based on the needs of the VA health care system. Tentatively selected applicant is subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Applicants that refuse to be tested will be denied employment with the VA. (VA Directive and Handbook 5019). Physicians, including residents, appointed to direct patient-care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English as required. Must currently be licensed in a State, Territory or the district of Columbia and should preferably be certified or qualified for examination by the American Board Of Psychiatry or other appropriate speciality certifying boards.
Required Schooling / Training
- Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are:Schools of medicine holding regular institutional membership in the Association of American Medical Colleges for the year in which the degree was granted or schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the American Osteopathic Association for the year in which the degree was granted or schools (including foreign schools) accepted by the licensing body of a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico), or in the District of Columbia as qualifying for full or unrestricted licensure or for residents, graduation from an approved medical school as described above is required except as provided in M-8, part II.
