What you'll be doing

The senior clinical research coordinator independently applies ophthalmic photography techniques through the use of specialized camera or imaging systems. Manages study protocols for the various studies related to ophthalmic disease and vitreo retinal surgery. Coordinates and oversees start up procedures, study implementation, recruitment, screening, enrollment and maintenance of subjects. Creates informational and recruitment materials and serves as a liaison with other UCSD departments and community clinics or agencies for the purpose of implementation of studies. Assures compliance with state and federal regulatory guidelines. Oversees the quality of the medical and clinical research data. Provides direction to clinical trials office and guidance to investigators. Provides education and information to the general public concerning the ongoing clinical trials. Assists PI with proposals, progress reports and manuscripts. Independently creates original documents and policies for the program. Works closely with federal and state regulatory officials.

What your background should be

Theoretical knowledge in a social science or basic science such as biology, microbiology or a related field. Must hold valid certificates in the following areas: certified ophthalmic photography, certified fundus photography, certified FA photographer, certified 7 field color fundus photography. Must be currently certified as an ophthalmic assistant through JCAHPO or be working towards certification. Demonstrated ability to perform tonometry, field of vision, visual acuity, measurement of eye refractive error, color vision, spectacle measurement and related tests. Proven experience in research protocol start up procedures, marketing, outreach, recruitment and maintaining a research study cohort. Strong experience in clinical trials research. Working knowledge of medical and scientific terminology and knowledge of ophthalmic diseases, symptoms, diagnosis and treatment in order to carry out all functions. Proven ability to develop and implement effective patient scheduling or appointment system and coordinate the flow or necessary documents and referral services. Demonstrated ability to take patient history, evaluate patient problems and provide complete documentation in patient record.
