What you'll be doing

Candidate should perform burning and fitting operations with limited supervision using standard ship fitting equipment to accomplish fabrication and ship repair duties. Proficiently accomplish fabrication and repair assignments from verbal instructions, blue prints, sketches, diagrams and owner specifications with limited supervision. Monitors working environment for compliance with quality, safety, environmental and health regulations. Potential candidate must have demonstrated an acceptable proficiency by successfully passing a standard first class practical exam and hands on testing. Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations before customers, clients, or employees of organization. May be assigned tasks outside craft as required, may be assigned to work any shift. Locate and mark reference lines such as centerlines, buttock lines and frame lines.

What your background should be

Minimum 3 years experience as a 1st class ship fitter or 5 years related experience in similar related industry. Five years minimum experience in other non-shipyard related industry. Must pass FCAW (flux core arc welding) and SMAW (shielded metal arc welding) processes in the vertical and over head positions. The coupon test must pass a visual and break test. Proficient in burning, washing, edge prepping using hand and automated equipment. Must be able to demonstrate the safe and effective use of craft related tools and equipment, i.e. track burner, overhead crane, 50 ton jacks and large fairing tools. Must be able to measure and lay out using U.S. standard and metric tape measures. Must be able to fill out a job safety analysis. Thorough knowledge of joint preparation for steel plate and structural steel.
