What you'll be doing

The social studies teacher will collaborate with a dynamic team made up of teachers, interns, assistants, volunteers, staff and administration to host the school four week summer academy. Provide the sixth and seventh grade students with developmentally appropriate reading, writing, and social studies learning activities, experiences and assessments to foster intellectual, spiritual, physical, and social growth, targeting grade level common core standards and competencies. Create and implement classroom rules to manage student behavior for providing a safe and optimal learning environment. Utilize data based best practices, normative and summative assessments, diverse teaching methods, technology, and differentiation to provide effective and engaging instruction. Communicate effectively with the administration, colleagues, parents, or legal guardians. Proactively identify and develop the ways to improve school performance. Perform other duties and tasks as assigned.

What your background should be

Experience working with diverse students and communities facing economic and social challenges. Ability to work proactively, collaboratively, inclusively, and respectfully with others. Keen understanding of the flexibility and innovation inherent in a startup school. State teacher certification or proof of licensure from another state and willingness to meet state requirements.

Required Schooling / Training

MA in social studies or related field, or equivalent.
