Software Systems Engineer

What you'll be doing: Engineer, document, and maintain system requirements at the computer software configuration item (CSCI) level. Maintain requirements traceability to higher-level specifications. Document, allocate and maintain system requirements at the subsystem specification level. Review identified software failure descriptions, proposed documentation changes, and proposed software enhancements. Participate in software configuration control boards (SCCB). Provide recommendations for software build scope, helping to allocate planned software changes to future software releases. Engineer solutions to software failures and proposed enhancements through collaboration with fleet representatives and subject matter experts (SME) from software, test & evaluation (T&E), human systems integration (HSI), safety, and external systems. Estimate systems engineering effort and requirements growth for future software builds. Calculate actual requirements metrics for completed software builds. Evaluate and document software capabilities and limitations. Develop expertise in digital engagement control, track management, tactical decision aids, naval gun and missile systems, and common data link (CDL) communications.

What your background should be: Knowledge of naval surface combat systems and weapon control systems. Experienced with the systems engineering process. Ability to develop system level requirements. Ability to work within a government and contractor team environment. Ability to work with others to meet established goals and program schedules. Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. Experience briefing to varied audiences; military, government, and industry. Experience with the requirements management tool, dynamic object oriented requirements system (DOORS).
