What you'll be doing

Provide assessment and nursing care for all ill and injured students. Utilize a district knowledge base for decision making in nursing practice. Use a systematic approach to problem solving in nursing practice. Contribute to the education of the student with special health needs by assessing the student, planning, and providing appropriate nursing care, and evaluating the identified outcomes of care. Use effective written, verbal, and nonverbal communication skills.Collaborate with other school professionals, parents, and caregivers to meet the health, developmental, and educational needs of students.Collaborate with members of the community in the delivery of health and social services, and utilize knowledge of community health systems and resources to function as a school community liaison. Assist students, families and the school community to achieve optimal levels of wellness through appropriately designed and delivered health education. Contribute to school health through innovations on practice and participation in research or research-related activities. Identify the nursing role, promote quality of care, pursue continue professional enhancement, and demonstrate professional conduct. Assume other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the health services director.

What your background should be

Registered professional nurse with academic preparation at the associate or baccalaureate level. Current Texas license issued by the board of nurse examiners. Preferred two years of supervised nurse practice preferably in pediatrics and medical/surgical nursing prior to entry into school nursing. Ability to lift 150 lbs with assistance if needed.
