What you'll be doing

Substitute teacher instructs students in the absence of their regularly appointed teachers. Candidate will typically follow the lesson plans of the regular teachers and strive to maintain normal classroom procedures and discipline procedures. Reports to the office and meet with the appropriate administrator for orientation to school policies and procedures such as attendance, discipline, class schedules and lesson plans. Carries out a program of study prescribed in the lesson plans left by the classroom teacher. Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students. Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and objectives as indicated in the lesson plans for the lessons, units or projects assigned.

What your background should be

To thrive on the job, substitute teacher must be able to easily adopt the instructional strategies of the regular teachers and follow their lesson plans accurately. They also need strong communication skills to instruct students in a clear and understandable manner. Prior teaching and substitute experience is highly preferred. Desire to work in a charter school program.

Required Schooling / Training

Bachelor Degree or higher is required.
