What you'll be doing

Substitute Trainer/Equipment Manager works under direction administers first aid and limited physical therapy; maintains athletic equipment rooms; and performs related duties as required. Incumbent must work cooperatively with coaches and P.E. instructors and athletes. This position performs a variety of responsible medical and technical duties related to the athletic and physical education programs. Successful performance requires the incumbent to establish leadership and rapport to elicit cooperation from students to maintain order, safety and security in locker and equipment rooms. Administer first aid during physical education periods, all home and away football athletic events. Provide limited physical therapy such as whirlpool, ultra-sound, massage, hydroculator, ice & heat compacts; wrap straps, bandages and dresses injuries. Transports injured athletes and students to hospital. Assists physician in treating major injuries and provides service as directed. Maintain training room equipment and supplies, first aid boxes, tables, machines. Mark stores and issues athletic gear and equipment. Repairs, cleans, inventories and stores athletic equipment as seasons rotate. Assist in ordering athletic equipment. Dispense forms and reports. Maintain simple records. Washes and dries training room laundry. Observes and maintains safety and orderly student conduct in the shower and locker room.

What your background should be

Two years of responsible experience as an athletic trainer, physical therapist, paramedic, LVN or related occupation. Four years of equivalent experience as an aide or assistant to the positions above. Equipment, materials and supplies used in competitive athletic events, particularly football, baseball, basketball, tennis and track; first aid procedures and limitations placed on non-physicians; physical therapy techniques, taping, bandaging, hydrotherapy and similar treatments; physical fitness, hygiene and safety procedures related to athletic programs; storage and inventory methods. Administer advanced first aid and physical therapy; develop and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted during the course of work; understand and carry out written and oral directions; repair athletic equipment. Completion of an approved program for athletic trainers, physical therapist, paramedics or a related field. Possession of a valid and appropriate state, county or city license or certificate required for athletic trainers. This position required possession of a valid and appropriate California driver license and a valid First Aid certificate issued by the American Red Cross. Possession of a C.P.R. certificate. Certificate in Sports Therapy and Fitness.

High School Diploma: Completion of the 12th grade or equivalent
