What you'll be doing

Assists parents to understand and cope with newly diagnosed disabilities in addition to deafness. Tracks and coordinates eligibility reviews, does file reviews, runs pre eligibility meetings, writes educational impact statements and submits all needed eligibility documents for distribution. Functions as a consultant to the dormitory, school and guidance staff. Provides individual and group counseling when needed. As requested, participates in student IEP meetings and works with the team to develop goals based on the needs of the student. Maintains individual student files relating to psychological evaluations and behavioral interventions. Contacts parents as needed or requested to coordinator services for their child, facilitates exchanges of information so appropriate planning and services can be provided and responds to parents/ concerns or requests. Contacts and coordinates with social services agencies to obtain related services needed the student to be successful in his/her educational placement. Serves as facilitator when a meeting may become contentious. Ensures that all parties are supported as best as possible. Works with active deaf and hard of hearing children throughout the day. May be required to supervise students during special activities.

What your background should be

Able to engage in routine conversation, emergency transactions and minimum courtesy requirements. Able to sign ASL with sufficient structural accuracy and vocabulary to participate effectively in most formal and informal conversations on practical, social and professional topics; able to conduct work in ASL.

Required Schooling / Training

Masters degree in School Psychology
