Workers Compensation Specialist

What you'll be doing

Provides authoritative advice and counsel to management and human resources (FHR) on the interpretation and application of workers compensation policies, legislation, regulations and processes, as well as on loss control procedures and related regulations; designs and implements training and orientation programs to disseminate this information to facility or plant operations. Reviews and evaluates all work-related accident reports for completeness and clarity of data; analyzes data, as needed, to ensure compliance with policy and regulatory requirements. Serves as administrator of the first report claims administration portal. Includes assignment of authorized business units claim representative and report generator. Provides authoritative direction to claims representatives or adjusters to determine appropriateness and amount of workers compensation claims; investigates individual claims for eligibility for workers compensation benefits; ensures that all legal and procedural requirements are met for the processing of claims, in order to ensure proper and timely payment to employees and medical facilities. Participates in strategic planning aimed at reducing the incidence of workers compensation-related injuries. Performs other duties as assigned.

What your background should be

Five years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Strong knowledge of applicable legislation, standards, policies and procedures related to workers compensation. Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. Ability to use independent judgment and make appropriate insurance claims adjustment decisions and determinations. Ability to use independent judgment and to manage and impart confidential information. Skill in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures.

Required Schooling / Training

Bachelor's degree.
